Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki are two of the most popular automobile manufacturers in India. Both these companies have created a legacy of their own in the field of automobile manufacturing. Both companies offer great cars to the car buyers in India and abroad. Although Maruti is the leading carmaker of the country, Tata is also a well-known and well-respected company known for its excellent passenger cars and heavy vehicles. Both the companies have given the car lovers wonderful cars like Maruti 800 (the most successful Indian car, now discontinued) and Indica (the first ever indigenously built Indian car), which are considered iconic.
Tata has recently launched the hatchback Bolt, with a refreshing look and design. On the other hand, Maruti Ritz, which has been around for some time now, is a proven performer in the hatchback segment. Here is a quick look into how they will fare against each other.
Price – Tata Bolt is priced at INR 4.2 lakh, whereas the Ritz is available for a price starting from INR 4.23 lakh. As there is not much of a difference in the cost of the cars, it is likely that the Ritz will have the advantage of its proven record working in its favor. However, Bolt, with its inspiring looks and features could be preferred by the youth.
Engine – Tata Bolt is powered by a 1200 cc, 1.2-liter, Revotron 1.2T engine capable of producing 83.34 bhp of top power and 140 Nm of peak torque. A 1248 cc K series engine that can churn a top power of 86 bhp and peak torque of 114 Nm powers the Ritz. The figures show that though the Ritz will be faster than the Bolt, it will be less powerful than the latter.
Mileage – Maruti Ritz offers an impressive mileage of 18.5 kmpl. Bolt, on the other hand has a mileage of 14.85 kmpl. However, the diesel variant offers a better mileage of 22.95 kmpl.
Features and comforts – As far as the physical dimensions of the cars are concerned, Tata Bolt is both longer and wider than the Maruti Ritz is. It also has a larger wheelbase than the Maruti counterpart has. However, the Ritz is taller than the Bolt. Ritz is also slightly lighter in weight at 1005 kg, when compared to the 1080 kg of the Bolt.
Conclusion – In short, it can be said that the Bolt wins the race when it comes to looks and features. However, the Ritz has a proven record of accomplishment and hence, it will not be an easy rival. The Maruti car has a definite advantage in areas like mileage, service network and the like. The Tata car will have a tough fight ahead.
